presentation and OSA sponsored a

OSA Visits Japan
In November 2011, OSA President Chris
Dainty and CEO Elizabeth Rogan
attended Optics and Photonics Japan
2011 in Osaka. Dainty presented a plenary address and met with the president
of the Japan Society of Applied Physics
(JSAP), Yasuhiro Shiraki. OSA and
JSAP renewed their cooperative agreement during their meeting.
Dainty and Rogan also visited the
OSA student chapter at Osaka University, which presented their impressive
outreach activities and proposed new
events aimed at facilitating networking
among student members and chapters.
Former OSA Board member Satoshi
Kawata hosted Rogan and Dainty at the
4th Handai Photonics Day at the Photonics Advanced Research Center (PARC).
;ey were introduced to Toshio Hirano,
President of Osaka University, and given
a tour of PARC.
OSA Fellow Visits Malaysia
Qihuang Gong from Peking University, China, visited Malaysia in October
2011 with an OSA Fellow Member
Travel Grant. Gong presented a seminar to the faculty and students from
Multimedia University, the University
of Malaya and the Universiti Putra
Malaysia (UPM). He participated in a
lively Q & A session following his talk.
Gong also met with the members of the
UPM OSA student chapter.
Welcome New Editors
We are happy to announce that Ulf
Osterberg of the Norwegian University
of Science and Technology, Norway, has
agreed to serve as a topical editor for Optics
Letters. We’d also like to welcome Je;rey
Nicholson of OFS Laboratories, U.S.A.,
to the editorial board of Optics Express.
We are pleased that Fumio Koyama
of the Tokyo Institute of Technology,
Japan (Optics Letters); William Wad-sworth of the University of Bath, U.K.
(JOSA B); and Maciej Wojtkowski of
Nicolaus Copernicus University, Poland
(Optics Express) have each agreed to
serve another three-year terms as associate and topical editors. We thank them
for their support of OSA journals.
