Verdi G8—A Unique 8 Watt
Green Laser
Coherent Inc. has introduced the Verdi G8,
a high-power, 532-nm, scientific-grade
laser based on the company’s unique optically pumped semiconductor laser (OPSL)
technology. With 8 watts of output, this
laser provides a next-generation solution for
pumping titanium:sapphire-based ultra-fast laser oscillators in applications such
as spectroscopy, pump-probe dynamics
and materials research. Like other Verdi
G lasers, the new G8 delivers lower noise
(<0.03% rms) than other competitive lasers
based on diode-pumped solid state (DPSS)
technology. While DPSS lasers multimode
operation generates chaotic sum frequency
noise, the short upper laser lifetime of
OPSL devices totally eliminates so-called
“green noise.”
Comprehensive New Metal-Organics Reference Manual
for Materials, Polymers & Synthesis
Gelest Inc. announces a new 348-page reference
manual, titled Metal-Organics for Materials, Polymers &
Synthesis, which showcases the company’s greatly expanded range of metal-organic compounds for materials,
polymers and synthesis. One hundred new compounds
have been added, including metal alkoxides, diketonates
and monomers. The materials are available as 100 percent
active or solvent dilutions for use in catalysis, sol-gel and
cross-linking reactions. The new reference manual provides
exhaustive research on catalysis, organic synthesis, surface
modification, metallization, conductive coatings, polymer
synthesis and self-assembled monolayers. It also includes
technical data for Gelest’s more than 1,000 metal-organic
compounds, accompanied by additional reference materials
to facilitate the availability of information for use in the development of new applications.

New Large-Format InGaAs Camera Features CE Certification
for European Union
Sensors Unlimited–Goodrich ISR Systems
announces the compact, large-format indium
gallium arsenide (InGaAs) high-resolution
shortwave infrared snapshot video camera,
the SU640KTS. The new imager has met
all Conformite Europeene (CE) and the U.S.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
standards for radiated and conducted emissions,
for immunity from such emissions, and for
electrostatic discharge (ESD) resistance. The CE
mark ensures compatibility with the toughest
country requirements for instruments delivered to
European Union customers. The SU640KTS operates in the SWIR (from 0.9 µm to
1. 7 µm) at 30 frames per second. The solid-state, uncooled 640 x 512 pixel array
camera with 25 µm pitch also features built-in nonuniformity corrections (NUCs),
automatic gain control (AGC), and adjustable automatic contrast enhancement.

Announcing Eleven Performance-Boosting Enhancements to
ProVision Boundary-Scan Tool
JTAG Technologies has once again boosted the performance of its ProVision suite of
boundary-scan development tools with the addition of 11 enhancements. The first is the
addition of all instructions handling (including private instructions) within ProVision’s JTAG
Functional Test (JF T) capability, giving users easier access to device registers [other than
just those needed for IEEE Std. 1149.1boundary-scan operations]. For example, registers
needed to invoke on-chip emulation modes and programming registers can now be accessed using JF T’s Python routines. The second enhancement is the addition of ‘netlist
type autodetect,’ which automatically recognizes netlist formats as belonging to certain
tool vendors. Thirdly, the WGL test vector format (as used for IC testing) is now supported
through a ProVision plug-in.
