OSA Travel Grants Support
International Visits

OSA Fellow Yuri Kivshar visited universities in Croatia, Serbia and the Ukraine. He met with students and professors, visited their labs and presented talks. One of the trip’s highlights was the conference “Optics, Photonics, and Metamaterials” organized by local OSA student chapters. In August, OSA Fellow I.C. Khoo visited the Institute Technology Bandung, Indonesia. Khoo gave two tutorial lectures, followed by a plenary paper at the 7th ISMOA.

Apply for a Career in
Science Policy

If you’d like to use your scientific background to influence public policy, consider applying for OSA’s Congressional Fellowships program. OSA hosts two fellowships—one jointly with the Materials Research Society and another with SPIE. Fellows spend one year in Washington, D.C., working as a legislative assistant on the staff of a member of Congress or Congressional committee, beginning each September. Applicants must have a Ph.D. as of Sept. 1, 2010, to be eligible; mid- and late-career applicants also encouraged. Application deadline: Jan. 8, 2010.
